About us
The Plantenasiel
Plantenasiel Haarlem was founded in early 2018 by two students who wanted to share their love for plants with the world. It is an initiative that rescues houseplants which cannot stay in their original home anymore, for example because they grew too big, are not thriving anymore, or the owner fell out of love with them.
Over the course of 2020, the Plantenasiel (literally translated: plant shelter) was handed over to a new team, which has since welcomed many more members and said goodbye to a few. We are situated at two different locations in Haarlem.
All donated plants will be cared for and kept at the location they were brought to until they find a new owner. All healthy plants are available for adoption during our opening hours. We ask adoptive plant parents for a voluntary (monetary) donation. Plantenasiel Haarlem is a non-profit organisation with a focus on sustainability and love for plants. Donations help us run our organisation and buy necessities such as potting soil, larger pots and fertiliser.
The team
Currently, our team consists of 11 enthusiastic plant lovers with different backgrounds, ages and nationalities. Are you crazy about houseplants and do you want to join our team? Send us a message to get to know us and figure out if volunteering with us is something you would like to do. Full Dutch proficiency is not required, but being able to understand the basics and have simple conversations is strongly advised. We try to speak Dutch among each other as much as possible and help each other learn the language where necessary.
