Donation information

What can I donate?

At Plantenasiel Haarlem, you can donate houseplants and cuttings of houseplants . If your plant has grown too big, for example, or if it's not doing so well in the house. It could also be that you have simply gotten tired of it; that's not a problem at all. You can also donate cuttings to us. Unfortunately, we cannot accomodate garden plants in the shelter.

Besides houseplants and cuttings, plant-related items are also welcome. Think of pots, bowls, moss poles, or potting soil you may have left over. If you have any questions, just let us know!

How do I donate?

If you want to donate a plant to the Plantenasiel, you can come by during our opening hours and bring the plant. Are you in doubt whether a plant is still good enough to be donated? In that case, send us a personal message via e-mail, Instagram or Facebook. If possible, please include a photo! Before a plant is admitted to our shelter, we would like to know a few things...

What do you want to know?

If you want to donate a plant, we would like to know why you are getting rid of the plant, so that we can potentially take this into account when taking care of the plant. We would especially like to know if the plant might suffer from pests or disease. This is to prevent other shelter plants from becoming infected. Pests can present themselves in the form of little flies in the potting soil, or white/grey/brown/black bugs on or under the leaves or on the stems. Sometimes the pests themselves are not visible, but your plant shows signs of damage. Is this the case with your plant? Please let us know and we will look for a solution together.

Where can I donate?

You are welcome to drop by during our opening hours, which are Wednesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm at De Baan and and Thursdays from 7 pm to 9 pm at Alleman.

If you really can't make it in that time frame, we will try to schedule another moment. Bringing plants outside our opening hours is therefore by appointment only.

Do I need to pay when donating a plant?

Donating a plant is completely free of charge. Unfortunately, we are also unable to provide a reimbursement upon donation. This is because we also do not charge for plants that are adopted.

May I adopt a plant in exchange for the plant I donate?

You can certainly adopt a plant when you come to make a donation.
